Synopsis: This is a story of a small town tucked way back into the woods. A hockey town that is sort of forgotten with most things closed and run down. Not the hockey rink though, and there is a big game coming up that if the junior team wins – maybe the town could get some real funding for a hockey school and build everything back up again.
Review: Fredrik Backman is an incredible writer and it shows as this story is well-written with great characters and development that I really enjoyed. The story is a little dark but it really sheds light on some tough issues that are important to talk about. Anyone from a really small town like this may know of or experienced what it’s like to live in a community with little privacy but plenty of secrets and the difficulties of standing up for what’s right but not always what’s most popular.
I recommend it and will definitely pick up the sequel, Us Against You.
